Component-Based Software Engineering - New Challenges in Software Development

    Get PDF
The primary role of component-based software engineering is to address the development of systems as an assembly of parts (components), the development of parts as reusable entities, and the maintenance and upgrading of systems by customising and replacing such parts. This requires established methodologies and tool support covering the entire component and system lifecycle including technological, organisational, marketing, legal, and other aspects. The traditional disciplines from software engineering need new methodologies to support component-based development

Challenges in Education in Global Software Engineering: What are the problems in communication mismatches, and how to ensure information consistency

    Get PDF
This talk presents needs, challenges and experience of education of Global Software engineering. In Global Software Development the developers and other stakeholders are acting in a distributed environment, with different contexts and with different assumptions. This usually causes different understanding of the same information and different reactions of the stakeholders which may lead to different problems during the development process. What can be done to avoid these problems? This talk addresses these questions through an analysis of education for distributed development, performed in a distributed environment. In particular, experiences from a course Distributed Software Developmentā€ (DSD) will be discussed. DSD course was organized and performed between the School for Innovation, Design and Engineering at MƤlardalen University (MDH), Sweden, the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), Croatia, and partially joined by the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. The talk will discuss the challenges in creating and performing a joint DSD course due to misunderstanding of information and the solutions implemented at DSD, lessons learned, and success stories

The paper presents research of models for classification of bank debtor distress based on ratios calculated from official financial statements. Basic sample consists of 168 companyā€™s debtors of middle size bank, and 15 financial ratios were used. In research multiple discriminate analyses, logit model and multidimensional scaling method was used for classifying companies based on orderliness in payment of their liabilities. Since discriminate analysis and logit model could not successfully discriminate ā€œgoodā€ and ā€œmediumā€ companies, basic sample was appropriately limited to 141 companies classified as ā€œgoodā€ or ā€œdubiousā€. All estimated models have high rate of reliability in prediction of orderliness in payment of liabilities that can express the degree of companyā€™s efficiency or distress. Reliability of all created models was confirmed on control sample as well. This research also demonstrated that multidimensional scaling methods can be successfully used for classifying of companies based on magnitude of their business problems using appropriate financial ratios

Participation of endogenous tumour necrosis factor Ā  in host resistance to cytomegalovirus infection

Interferon gamma (IFN gamma) represents an essential cytokine involved in murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) clearance from the salivary gland and the control of horizontal transmission. Because IFN gamma cannot be responsible for all cytokine effects during recovery from MCMV infection we have now tested the potential participation of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) in the antiviral defence. Neutralization of endogenous TNF alpha abolished the antiviral activity of CD4 T cells in immunocompetent as well as in CD8 subset-deficient mice. These data suggest that the antiviral effect of the CD4 subset requires the presence of at least two cytokines, namely IFN gamma and TNF alpha. Depletion of endogenous TNF alpha in adoptive cell transfer recipients diminished the antiviral function of CD8 T lymphocytes suggesting that TNF alpha also participates in CD8 T cell effector functions. Furthermore, endogenous cytokines were found to be required for survival after infection with lethal doses of MCMV, whereas immunotherapy with recombinant TNF alpha and IFN gamma could not limit virus replication in vivo. The results suggest that, similar to IFN gamma, TNF alpha is an integral part of the protective mechanisms involved in cytomegalovirus clearance
